Eye surgery, sometimes called ocular surgery, is typically surgery done on the eye itself or some of its adnexa, usually by an optometrist. The eye is such a delicate organ and needs special care prior to, during, and immediately after a surgery. Surgeons perform eye surgeries to correct vision problems, correct for nearsightedness or farsightedness, repair damage done by corneal abrasion or cataract, remove or adjust deviated corneal surface and lens, replace the natural eye lid to provide more stable vision, remove glasses or contact lens, replace the iris with an artificial lens, repair or improve the eye's muscle tone, correct the optometrist's instruments for better patient care, and last but not least, to correct eye deformities such as the dry eye las vegas  that cannot be corrected through medication. In the recent past, surgeons have been able to perform more complex eye surgeries, which included eyelid surgery and reconstruction of the eye socket and eyelids, as well as various cosmetic eye surgeries. Such procedures are typically performed in an outpatient facility, at times in a surgeon's office.

Although the modern eye surgery has come a long way in terms of technology and sophistication, its roots go back even further, to when man first started using glasses to correct their poor vision. Originally, this was only done for people who could not see well enough to wear glasses. Later on, people started using colored contacts to increase their vision, but as lenses became more advanced, people started to use glasses instead. The switch from glasses to contact lenses came about because people found that they had better vision without the need for bulky and cumbersome lenses and frames.

Eye doctors make use of various procedures in order to change the way you look at the world. Some of these changes include correcting nearsightedness or farsightedness, improving your vision and correcting your colour vision. If your eyes are older and have large amounts of plastic scarring, your doctor may perform a procedure called lasik las vegas, or laser eye surgery. This type of procedure allows a doctor to reshape your cornea, which is a thin flap over each of your eyes that helps your vision by cutting a small incision in your eye and then suturing the incisions closed.

The second type of eye surgery that your doctor might perform is called LASIK, or Laser in Situ Keratomileusis. This is sometimes performed under local or general anesthesia. It involves the insertion of a thin flap over each of your eyes and then suturing the incisions closed with stitches. In order to have LASIK, you will probably have to spend several hours in the hospital and then drive yourself home afterwards. General anesthesia can be used as well, but is generally reserved for cases where the procedure is very minor, or for those who have small amounts of plastic scarring, which would otherwise prevent them from being able to have any eye surgery.

A popular last resort for many people who have undergone eye surgery to correct their vision problems is called refractive eye surgery. This can be done under either general or local anesthesia and can be a last ditch effort to correct your vision problems, especially if your eyes are damaged and you cannot see well enough to be able to go to the optometrist to have corrective eye surgery. Your eyes will be examined before refractive eye surgery to determine the severity of your refractive errors and whether you are a candidate for this type of operation. Most people who are in this situation are not eligible for LASIK, which means that they will probably have to go through with the corrective eye surgery first, even though it carries a high risk of complications.

Before having any eye surgery, whether it is done in the doctor's office or in an operating room by a specialist, you should always ensure that you are able to remain awake and alert throughout the procedure. Sedation is often used as a way of creating a deep sleep, but this may not be a good idea, as it may make you more relaxed and possibly be uncooperative. You should always ask your doctor about any sedation methods that are available to you and discuss how they will be used during the procedure so that you are comfortable with them. In the event that you need to remain awake and discuss your feelings and anxieties regarding the procedure and before-and-after pictures, you should request that your partner stay with you while you are under anesthesia. This way you both can be reassurance that you are doing what is best for you during your surgery.
